We are looking for the very best in innovation and are particularly interested in companies that are developing solutions to future-proof the travel and tourism industry and help tourism companies thrive amidst the challenges brought about by COVID-19. Whether you already have some traction in the industry, or are looking to apply your solution to the industry for the first time, we want to hear from you.
Your opportunity to pilot with leading Singapore Tourism Businesses
The top 15 companies will be selected based on their ability to help solve one of the challenge statements below from our Industry Partners. Once selected, each team will be guided during an intensive 6-week programme on how to work closely with their respective Industry Partner to design, launch, and measure the success of actual pilot projects, before embarking on a 3 month pilot during the rest of the 4-month programme.

- B2B or B2B2C focused. We are looking for companies that will be able to pilot solutions directly with travel and tourism businesses
- Technology company. We are looking for companies that have technology/ innovation that can power the tourism and hospitality industry.
- Based anywhere in the world, but open to a residential programme based in Singapore itself
- Open-minded and collaborative in adapting their solutions to an original pilot with a tourism business

Commitment
- Two members of the company, at least one co-founder and a pilot project lead should commit to the full 4-month programme.
- 100% attendance is expected for all programme activities: workshops, learning events, mentoring activities and catch-ups with the programme team. The relocation stipends are tied to programme engagement.
- You are expected to develop a product-pilot fit - either for a new solution from existing technologies or for an adapted solution with existing market validation to be tailored and scaled with the corporate partner.
- The Pilot Implementation phase takes place over 3 months that will require leadership focus, resource deployment from the startup/scaleup ending with an Investor Demo Day.

Hospitality Challenge Statements

Context: As part of the Capitaland Master Sustainability Plan, Ascott is committed to reducing water and energy use over the next few years for its global properties.
Pilot Requirements: Easy to implement solutions to help Ascott-operated properties reduce water and/or energy usage, at any part of the value chain.
Technology: IoT, Data Analytics
- Potential test-bedding in up to 8 Singapore properties across 4 brands
- Potential scaling to 500 properties across almost 40 countries
- Ascott HQ endorsement to global portfolio
Challenge Statement #2
Pilot Requirements: A lightweight, and if possible “as-a-service”, solution that tackles at least 2 out of 4 of waste- measurement, tracking, recycling and/or reduction.
Technology: IoT, Data Analytics
- Potential test-bedding in up to 8 Singapore properties across 4 brands
- Potential scaling to 500 properties across almost 40 countries
- Ascott HQ endorsement to global portfolio

Context: Hotels receive many truck/van deliveries, be it for fresh produce, daily necessities, hardware, etc resulting in congested loading bays and air and noise pollution.
Pilot Requirements: A hub-and-spoke delivery routing optimisation solution to consolidate deliveries from different suppliers for each delivery to the hotel, and even with that of nearby hotels to optimise sharing of resources.
Technology: Logistics, Supply chain technology, AI

- Potential extended implementation to hotels within the group and support for roll-out to the wider industry nationwide

Context: Given manpower constraints, many hotel employees are required to learn new skill sets to perform in functions beyond their original scope. However, it is difficult to optimally deploy employees according to their skill sets and the day-to-day changing business requirements.
Pilot Requirements: An HR system that records and tracks the skill sets of all employees and dynamically rosters them to different functions based on fluctuating business requirements.

Context: With more hotel staff working remotely, it has become necessary for employees to adopt digital training while ensuring training attention, engagement, and knowledge retention to achieve the same or improved level of training outcome.
Pilot Requirements: Scalable digital training platform incorporating micro-learning, training modules integration, scenario-based learning, virtual immersive learning, communication, gamification and/or data analytics feature.
Technology: e-Training, EduTech, Gaming, Micro-Learning, AR/VR

- Potential extended implementation in global properties

Context: The difficulty and cost of integrating standalone systems (e.g. PMS, hospitality systems) is a major barrier to innovation in the hospitality industry.
Pilot Requirements: A scalable technology brand agnostic, multi-system integration cloud solution, allowing for easy plugging and unplugging and management. The security must be secured to specific standards e.g. PCI-DSS.

Context: Swisshôtel The Stamford is challenged by manpower shortage in its housekeeping department.
Pilot Requirements: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions that can help shorten the time for housekeeping (linen changing and floor cleaning) to turnover each room.

Context: Swisshôtel The Stamford is challenged by an influx of deliveries during peak hours, with limited manpower to deliver packages to the rooms, it causes delays for the guests.
Pilot Requirements: Robotic Process Automation (RPA) or other solutions that can assist hotel staff to send food deliveries to hotel rooms in a shorter time frame with fewer hotel staff.
Technology: Robotics, Automation
- Potential extended implementation across SEA properties
Context: This resort is spread over a large area, resulting in difficulty for guests to receive high-touch Concierge Services due to distance and limited front-line staff density.
Pilot Requirements: A solution that enables guests to have video interaction with a Concierge agent anytime, anywhere on the property using their personal devices.
Technology: Video conference tech, VoIP with video capabilities

Context: Wellness is an area of growing interest for the hospitality sector across hotels, and airlines as they devise ways to transform guests' and travellers' experience.
Pilot Requirements: Tech solutions that improve guests’ quality of sleep, help combat jet lag, and provide access/recommendations for wellness-related experiences.

Additional Benefits of this pilot:

Context: Commercial off-the-shelf software in the hospitality industry tends to be standalone and costly to be integrated, limiting this hospitality industry partner’s ability to extract value from the data they have collected.
Pilot requirements: A solution that can integrate standalone systems’ data for further analysis, with a key requirement of being able to update reservations data to the CRM system.
Technology: Systems integration, Data analytics
Additional Benefits of this pilot:

- A testbed to develop solution to integrate best-of-breed systems in the industry
- Address a common problem in the hospitality industry
Context: With a fixed supply (inventory of rooms in a hotel), hotels maximise revenue by selling maximum rooms at maximum prices. It is difficult to accurately predict demand across different segments and with dynamic market changes.
Pilot Requirements: A highly accurate forecasting system designed for the hotel environment and takes into consideration the dynamic changes in the environment (e.g. competitors’ rates, sales actions, peak and lull periods).

MICE Challenge Statements
Context: Current visitor, exhibitor, speaker and competition data collection/analysis is insufficient for customer insights and limits the ability to design personalised, hybrid experiences for the MICE sector.
Pilot Requirements: Online-to-offline (O2O) visitor management solution that can capture exhibitors and visitors' data (e.g. interactions, transactions), analyse and profile visitors to help design better experiences and business matchmaking.
Technology: Data analytics, Tracking/wearables, Video analytics, IoT, Facial recognition tech, MarTech

Attractions Challenge Statements

Context: NHB has many platforms for visitors to engage with content, i.e. physical, chatbots, websites, social media, but there is a lack of visibility on visitors' engagement and interests to help inform future content development.
Pilot Requirements: An AI solution that can analyse visitor engagement (e.g. traffic, viewing time) with both our online and offline content and recommend topics and formats for future content development.
Technology: AI, Data Analytics, IoT

Context: NHB's content is usually curated in a factual and descriptive manner, which can seem one dimensional. By allowing visitors to contribute their experiences or thoughts, a deeper level of engagement can be achieved.
Pilot Requirements: A solution that can create a virtual/ gamified space that allows visitors to engage in and contribute to shared social experiences in NHB's museums, festivals or heritage trails, by leaving text, image, audio or video content.
Technology: AR/VR, digital exhibitions, E-games, Gaming

Context: Under the Amusement Rides Safety Act (ARSA) by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA), the Cable Car operated by 1FG is required to deploy staff physically at each Cable Car platform to carry out duties in ensuring guest safety, resulting in significant operating costs.
Pilot Requirements: A technological solution that can fulfil BCA's ARSA requirements in guest safety and even provide other guest services e.g. concierge services ticketing, etc.

Context: In One Faber Group's (1FG) restaurants and bars, a lot of manpower is spent on mundane and repetitive tasks such as food preparation (e.g. chopping of ingredients) and bartending.
Pilot Requirements: Robotic solutions to perform repetitive and formulaic tasks with efficiency, speed and precision, that are preferably portable.
Technology: RPA

Context: The unmanned retail gift shop would be a first in Singapore and should be designed to bring a great shopping experience to visitors while minimising human contact.
Pilot Requirements: Unmanned retail operations technology with self-payment systems, anti-theft measures, and smart solutions to maintain optimal product inventory and placement.

Airline and Airport Services Challenge Statements

Context: The travel sector sees payments needing to be made in environments without data connectivity, digital wallets are increasingly becoming the payment of choice with a growing preference to make purchases on one's mobile device.
Pilot Requirements: An integrated low-cost POS system able to support crew/sales modules, support major credit cards and digital wallet payment methods such as Alipay, WeChat Pay etc and receive orders made on passengers' mobile devices, in offline environments.
Technology: Digital payment, FinTech, POS, Fraud detection
Benefits of this pilot:
- Potential to roll and scale solution across SATS' APAC markets including Singapore, Thailand, Japan and India for airline customers.

Context: There is a need to better anticipate inbound travellers' preference changes to maximise satisfaction and revenue from curating/ developing the right inflight meals and duty-free products by monitoring micro and macro trends.
Pilot Requirements: A self-service trendspotting engine surveying the general consumer market with speed sensitivity, relevance and accuracy for exploration of trends to produce actionable insights for curating/ developing inflight meals, duty-free products and anticipating other traveller demands.
Technology: AI, Consumer behaviour, Market research, Product R&D
Benefits of this pilot:
- Potential to roll and scale solution across SATS' APAC markets including Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan.

Context: Singapore Airlines aims to extend its current website capabilities to inspire travellers with well-designed and personalised itineraries during the discovery stage of their travel planning journey.
Pilot Requirements: A digital itinerary planner that recommends points of interests, tours, activities and accommodations based on a customer's profile, interests and travel preferences, and facilitates the bookings, all within the Singapore Airlines website. The solution should scale and deploy content that covers Singapore Airlines flight destinations within a short timeframe.
Technology: TravelTech
Benefits of this pilot:
- The solution would be used by passengers flying to the 130 destinations flown by Singapore Airlines
Travel Agency Challenge Statements

Context: For corporate travel, there are many travel policies to be adhered to, and the currently manual recommendation process is time-consuming.
Pilot Requirements: AI and chatbot assisted booking system where client information (travel policy, profiles, past bookings/ preferences) are saved, and integrated with the global distribution system and flight/ hotel suggestions can be generated quickly.

Context: With the need to do more with fewer people, technology would be the key to understanding clients better and delivering better service.
Pilot Requirements: AMarTech solution that can collect client feedback at every touchpoint, understand client pain points and improve customer satisfaction by reducing response time and ensuring customer-centric engagement.

Context: The industry partner’s e-commerce business unit is a growth engine but faces challenges in speed, scalability, and customer visibility due to a lack of intelligent, integrated systems and processes.
Pilot Requirements: E-commerce management solution that can automate backend order processing e.g. product list updates, order fulfilment, packages tracking, and/or provide online shopping experiences tailored according to past browsing and purchasing habits.
